Melodic. Captivating. Beautiful.
Joining Echobelly on their UK tour, Blue Violet proved the perfect companion. So much so, after listening to Blue Violet on Apple Music, the streaming service auto-played Echobelly classic ‘King of the Kerb’. How did it know?
Blue Violet’s first album ‘Late Night Calls’ was a dreamy slice of goodness. But new music, from forthcoming album ‘Faux Animaux’, is crunchier, catchier and bouncier. With electronic influences, it’s a sassier and groovier affair. Live, this translates as a carefree and uninhibited performance from singer Sarah Gotley.
Lush landscapes with a Kate Bush energy
The new songs are more musically diverse too, with vocals that take more risks. Evidenced on the gorgeous new single ‘Barefoot on the Seine’, a song sadly not on display tonight. A track that cooks up lush landscapes with a Kate Bush energy.
Like a young Madonna meets Paloma Faith, Sarah is hypnotic. Backed by husband Sam Gotley’s expertly layered guitars, he delivers imaginative textures coupled with Brian May-esq tones. Live, the band also features cool bassist Cheryl Pinero and drummer Martin Newbury, giving Blue Violet an additional edge.
Supporting Echobelly, this was a short set. Too short. But it was a taster of the full album and headline tour to come next year. A gig so good, even the 90 year old grandads in the front row had their ‘Boogie Shoes’ on.
Blue Violet are on the road with the legendary Echobelly, ahead of the release of their new album on 24th January 2025.
