Drop the Needle is the feature where artists give Bad Tattoo an insider look at their latest release.

Today’s Drop the Needle is from the excellent Fudge. If you haven’t had a chance to check them out, our Bad Tattoo review described them as Rage Against the Machine if they came from Leeds. Which aptly sums up this hard rocking, earthy English band to a Yorkshire Tea. Over to singer Cam with more on their new single Y.F.F.G.

Y.F.F.G. is a song that has been in our catalogue a while and has stood the test of time. It is a different kind of anthem to drop in the set list, and it changes the tone of a gig when we play live. With the softer introduction and verses, the song shows a different side to us but still interlocks with the rest of our vibe.

The slower start to Y.F.F.G. has the crowd chanting the words back to us and when the chorus hits, the room starts bouncing again. It’s become a favourite for our listeners.

I wrote the vocals for this song late at night. I feel like the tone and flow of it makes it a nighttime song. I was in one of those moods where I was contemplating everything going on at the time and just thinking about the future, all that bollocks, not quite a dwell but just deep thought, and my sleeping pattern was fucked back then. It was inspired by all the stuff that happens around nights out and just getting up to stuff that probably won’t benefit you in the future but, looking back, it was a blast. I took an approach to the song as if I was talking to someone I cared about at that moment in time but will not necessarily be close to them in the future, and just saying enjoy it now and don’t worry about what happens. We’re in it together for the time being.

When the song was written it became a pivotal part of the set, then when it was recorded and produced by the legend that is Kane Whitelam, it went to a whole new level. The music video to go with it, filmed and directed by Aperture Arcade, has seen it really taken form.

Crank up those speakers, learn the tunes and get to a gig. You’ll have a fooooking lethal time.

Cam Xoxo
