LUCKY 7 IS THE FEATURE WHERE WE ASK ARTISTS TO NAME THEIR 6 FAVOURITE SONGS BY OTHERS, AND A LUCKY 7TH SONG OF THEIR OWN…

Having made their debut on to the Manchester’s scene with a performance at Gorilla just days before the first national lockdown, alt-rock five piece PAVÉ took this time to hone their sound and discover their purpose as a group. Bouncing straight back from restrictions, they sold out their debut Manchester headline show at The Castle and headlined the iconic Night And Day Cafe, the bands persistence to make their mark has clearly paid off too, with their debut turning heads across the industry.

While their debut single earned crucial early support from BBC Introducing, the conceptual visual EP garnered consistent support from The Manc, RGM and landed them a performance at Academy 3 supporting The Hara. Their first release of 2023 ‘Animal’ gained heavy support from the likes of Clash, Planet Rock, and  Amazing Radio UK & USA.

The band’s latest single ‘Till I Die’ looks set to do much the same, with four minutes of weighty, emotionally-driven rock. To find out what makes up up PAVÉ‘s DNA we hand over to the band with their Lucky 7…

1. Viagra Boys – ‘Ain’t Nice

Kevin: This post punk song’s instrumental is a perfect example of complex simplicity. With a repetitive driving bass line with a punchy tone holding down the fort, the abstract embellishments added by guitars, synth, percussion and sax are creative and genius. Lyrically it is a perfect balance of humor and cynicism without being too straightforward or cringe which is tricky to do.. It is a track that I have had on repeat since it has come out and it still hasn’t lost it novelty for me. Much respect for Viagra Boys in all their work (a must see live)

2. The Dandy Warhols – ‘Ride’

Kevin: 2nd song would be Dandy Warhols 1995 ‘Ride’. I think they’re a band that get constantly overlooked due to the conception they are a one hit wonder band but a lot of there earlier stuff holds its weight today. The guitar tones in ride are beautiful and the minimalist vocal delivery is something I see alot of bands do today which might add to how this song has kept its freshness over the years. In other words its a banger.

3. Yonaka – ‘Punch Bag

Alanya: Whether I’m hyping myself up for stage, or in need of a little extra confidence boost on a day I don’t feel so powerful, Yonaka’s track, ‘Punchbag’ is my no.1 go to! Guaranteed to get me ready to face whatever situation I’m heading for – This is my ultimate go to power anthem

4. Swim Deep – ‘King city’

Alanya: This has been one of my favourite tacks, and bands since being young. They are one of the most underrated creatives out there. ‘King City‘ is such a beautifully written song. I purposely don’t allow myself to listen to this too often as I love how beautiful and nostalgic it makes me feel when I get to listen to it again. It keeps it special that way. Lyrically, it’s so simple- not at all trying too hard to be clever or sound catchy and cool. Just an honest piece of art.

5. Loathe – ‘Is It Really You?

Ben: Loathe are personally a big inspiration for song writing at the moment, at least for myself.

The beefy tones, powerful lyrics and vocal performance and instrumentation, along with an absolute tune of a chorus make this one of my favourites they’ve released.

6. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it – ‘And So I Watch You From Afar’

Jordi: One of my favourite bands. For their weird and wonderful guitar tones, to the dirty gritty bass, to the in your face punchy drums. This song will be sure to get you into a mosh pit and leave you wanting more. Greenday – ‘Welcome to Paradise

I like this song because of the energetic chorus’s and high temp feel throughout. With the chord patterns being quite simple, it gives room for the bass to do small runs and fills throughout which add more texture to the limited instruments used which I try and incorporate within my own writing.

PAVÉ LUCKY 7: ‘Till I Die

Till I Die’ is a song to angry to. Live, this is the track we see the crowd starting mosh pits and coming out of their shell for 4 minutes. This is when we realised this track gives others the same emotive feeling as it does us. Sometimes we need a song we can scream swear and shout to when we are frustrated and this is our ultimate track to let yourself go to.
